I just spoke to Theresa (my wife) and she swears they are all up and running and have green lights in FAHMon, so we'll see in a couple hours. I have the switches and led's to install, just haven't gotten around to it yet, still need to find enough of the connectors, run the wiring and make a face plate with labels Smile

Looks like we all had (and still some do) similar problems, because it was exactly the same here not so long ago (that if monitor was turned off, she thought the entire computer if off,haha). Grin

Luckily now she knows (probably because she didnt want to be embarrased in front of 4yo son who already knew that Grin

) that if she hears fans spining and sees blue light on the case, that the computer is turned ON. Laughing

I wonder how do you have all motherboards connected, acruxksa? Since you sad that entire rack only pulls 570W? So each mobo has its own PSU? Or is there a way to use all mobo's on 1PSU? (I believe that would be possible too, but you would have to do some re-wiring of psu's wiring) I ask this just in case i go F@H crazy in the future and start working on my own farm myself. Grin

I thought that if you run it on 1 PSU...those power "leaks" from it (since most of modern PSU have 80-90% efficiency), would be smaller...but no...I just did some math...and saw that its exactly the same...the only small "problem" is that you need 4 PSU's instead of 1...but since they can be 250-300W each...it's no such big deal either cause they can be found on ebay for few $$$ only - or for free if taken from some old nonworking computer Laughing

(and some people will even pay you if you take them with you....so there is also possibility to earn with F@H...AMAZING! King

Each motherboard and cpu has it's own psu and 2 of the 3 quads have xclio goodpower 500w psu's while one has an antec earthwatt 380. They all have G0 cpu's and are clocked at the same speed, but it appeared that the system running with the earthwatt cpu was actually only using about 120w while the other two systems were using just over 155w, I will be testing this in more detail at some point this summer, but I was left with the impression that I could save 30w per system just by switching from the xclio goodpowers to the earthwatt psu's.

I think it is mostly because the systems aren't drawing enough power to be in the efficiency envelope on the 500w psu's, they are all 80+ certified, but I read good things about the earthwatt 380's so when I ordered my last node I went with one of them and now I'm wishing I had done the same for all four nodes.

And that is correct, the entire rack with 3 quad core cpus, a dual core cpu, 15" lcd monitor, 8 port 1000mb switch, 1 hard drive and one pci videocard pulls 570w.

Well...if thats true...then it would surely be worth to change other 2 psu's....because 60W less...means (if we assume they're on 24/7)...1440W per month...or 17.280W (17+KW) less power used per year. Wink

Dont know for sure (you will be able to tell us when you test it), but i personally think there is something else that's causing that difference. Because if 500W are 80+ power efficient...that would mean that in reality systems use 130W + those 20% (ok maybe slightly less) that psu's "leak"... = 156W measured at power outlet. So in their case...systems use AT LEAST 130W of pure power, and that is still more than the other system uses (120W)even if psu would be 100% efficient (which we know it isnt). If you measured correctly, the other system uses some 100-105W and the rest all the way till measured 120W is due to psu loses. But in that case that would mean that mobo with ram uses only some 5-10W...because i read that G0 uses 95W alone at full load!? So there must be something else here...either that "120W" machine wasnt at full load....or....well dont know... Confused

Here is what i found about efficiency : 80 Plus certification guarantees that this 500W power supply is at least 80 percent efficient at 20 percent, 50 percent, and 100 percent loads. So if its like you said...that they are 80+ certified...they should deliver 80% or more efficiency already at 20% ... thats at 100W. Confused

Well...you should test in details and see....all i wish you is good luck in hunting lost watts. Grin

Finally...noone answered my previous question...does it matter (in terms of more points received per finished WU) whether someone finishes WU in i.e. 3 hours or in 24 hours? I believe its the same score for all tasks done in one day or less, right? Confused

Just wanna know whether its worth to push G0@3.4 to the max to finish asap (some 15hrs)...or will i get same score if i ran it at stock speed and finish in i.e. 24hrs? Confused

And now there are these "green" motherboards coming out from people like ASUS and Gigabyte that claim CPU power consumption can be rolled back by over 50% just by switching boards... Look for a review soon. Laughing

Well I actually already have one...Gigabyte x58 95%- Grin

They guarantee that it will lower power consumption of every component attached to it by at least 95%!!! I have quad SLI, dual quad cpu's on it....4 hdd's....2 dvdrw's....12 fans....and all sort of other stuff....and the system's total power consumption is 6.4W!!! Not to mention that i am still able to tweak it ALOT...so i believe i can still lower wattage to 5W with ease. Grin

Oh and cant wait for review...or should i send you mine? Grin

6.4W? That seems hard to believe. How is that being measured? Are we talking about AC power from the wall?
