CompUSA Closing Up Shop

Gee I'm shocked Yikes {note sarcasm}. Really doesn't come as a surprise, their prices always suck unless you get lucky and the actually pay their 6 rebates on a $200 item for only $49.99 Bang Head

O'well... maybe I'll go be a vulture at their store around here and see if I can snag a good deal as they close their doors Grin

They closed up all their shops around here like a year ago... The deals still sucked. 70% off and I could still save money going to Newegg or wherever and paying for shipping! Laughing

Funny to learn CompUSA is a Mexican store. Bang Head

I've seen a couple liquidation sales and never found a good deal. They will post signs all over the place proclaiming xx% off, but what they don't tell you is that the liquidators moved in the week before and returned all the prices to full retail so even with the so called savings you are paying as much or more than the stores everyday price. This goes on for weeks and they milk it with ads and signs, slowly lowering prices (or rather raising the discount percentage). By the time the prices are actually a good deal most of the good stuff has been bought by people who thought they were getting a good deal.

I shopped at a CompUSA once in Tennesse out of desperation. I was in TN, I needed an HDD for someone while I was there and I had no way of ordering one (or a place for it to be shipped to).

I believe I paid $130 for an $80 drive.

The first and last time I shopped at one of those stores was in 1995 when I needed a combination PCMCIA 56K modem w/10bT LAN card. Damn thing costed over $200. 1/9 the cost of my 75mhz Pentium Texas Instruments 465CD laptop(Acer made).
