I have noticed that FireFox seems to use a lot of memory. The other day it was using over 500MB Yikes

Right now with 4 tabs up, and downloading some drivers it's using 184MB (and it was using 172MB when I looked about 5 min's ago).

Does anyone else have this problem? Confused How much memory if FF using for you right now?

I have seen it grow to 200M or so.

Right now (3 tabs open and all of my addons) it is using 85M.

(Outlook is using 81M)

doesn't seem so bad...I am on a 2GB RAM system right now.

I was just reading something from Digg.com about Firefox being a memory hog, and other people seeing 500MB go to it easily!

I thought one of the horn tooting things they had was less drain on system resources.

Article I saw:

Yep, pretty much sounds like my problems. Just found an article on reducing memory. Seems to have helped. Had gotten up to over 200MB, now it's in the mid 180's and staying...

But still... WOW.

78MB with 3 tabs and 6 plugins running. (adblock plus, colorful tabs, download status bar, fireftp, free download manager and ie tab)

It seems pretty tame at the moment, but I have had issues with past versions. Opera is faster, but I'm more comfortable in firefox.

I have 14 addons/plugins running. I think when I check task mgr its about 100M-130M, which isn't bad at all with 2GB.

Not to get too far off topic, anyone ever try SwiftFox? I installed it on my ubuntu server and it runs well. I can check how much memory that uses compared to Firefox and see if there is a memory usage difference. I think its just for Linux though. Maybe it will be ported to Windows some day.

Normally, my firefox uses about 150M of memory, and I use a very handy extension StatusbarEx to monitor the memory usage, it can display the memory firefox used, and the system memory available in the status bar.

So when I notify that the memory firefox used beyond 200M, I just restart it, I hope this could be useful :-)
