Bang Head

I installed this software called Deepfreeze on HaVoc (my rig). Well the program was just sitting there without it being initiated. I was not utilizing the program at the moment nor have I been for the last couple months. I have never had an issue with DeepFreeze until now. I was in the middle of researching some stuff on the net, when suddenly I get an error with a bunch of error codes and seconds after a BSOD. The BSOD gives an error : DepFrzLo.sys is what caused this BSOD. So, my question is... Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this issue? As of now the only options I believe I have is either loading Knoppix on it and backing up any data that I possibly can then just reinstall windows on the hdd after. The other option, which is an option I am trying very hard to stay away from is, reinstalling windows and losing all my data.

DeepFreeze is an application that runs on the kernel level, which means its a pain in the @$$ to remove, not to mention its a software that is designed so that it cant be uninstalled by a simply using windows installer.

If anyone has any ideas that could aide in this process I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance! Bang Head

Hi, and welcome. Never heard of this program before and now that I looked it up it sounds like it offers the opposite of what it promises... "Deep Freeze provides bulletproof protection". Ouch.

Anyway... You can't reboot? How about into Safe Mode?

I can reboot. I cant boot in to windows. Not in Safe Mode not in ANY mode.

And yes, this software is one big disaster.

Life long lesson learned. Bang Head

have you tried LKGC? If it changed a reg setting, you can use the backup reg and try to delete it.

sorry,
Last
Known
Good
Configuration

The other thing you could do is boot from the CD and repair the OS...assuming it's a reg issue.

Why would you install Deepfreeze? It's generally used at Schools and Internet Cafe's to stop anyone from changing anything on the computer.

Update I am back in business.....

What I did:

After hours of patiently pulling out strands of my hair in a furious yet calm manner Bang Head Mad . I found a solution. I realized that windows was crashing because of a file being corrupted. This file being DepFrzLo.sys . I figured if I go to my laptop which has a known good installation of DeepFreeze, and I simply copy that .sys file and save it on the root of a USB flashdrive, I can then simply pop in the WinXP CD and run a repair. While repairing I can then browse to my USB Flashdrive then simply replace the known bad .sys with the known good one. Theoretically that would work and so it did. That was exactly what I did. Now I am back on Havoc. I am so so glad that I was able to recover my beloved and much needed files.

In regards to your comments and opinions, thank you all for your ideas. Until next BSOD,

HaVoc.Ghost
