Not really a dirtball, just ignorant and adamant about their assertions...

The Ad

OK, doesn't look bad. And that is probably what will screw up any bidders.

The ad says it is for PC3200 DDR ECC REG memory. But, if you take those part numbers they list to the manufacturer's website you will see that they are actually PC2-3200 DDR2 modules! Uh Oh!

So, I was interested in some ECC DDR and decided to write to them for clarification...

Quote:
Hi... I was very interested in bidding on this listing, but looked up the part numbers and see a problem. Neither part number listed in the auction is for PC3200 DDR memory, according to the Wintec site. Both part numbers are for PC2-3000 DDR2 memory, which is in no way the same thing. Can you confirm that this is DDR2 and not DDR memory?!?

Thanks.

They respond and feel more like correcting my typo than addressing the question...

Quote:
What is stated on the memory is what we list. This is DDR2 memory that is what the R in the PC3200R stands for. There is no such thing as PC3000 memory. I just checked with Wintec and I am writting exactly as it is explained to me.

So I fire back one more time before going to eBay just to protect any of the bidders who didn't bother to look up the PNs...

Quote:
OK, I apologize for mistyping PC3000 for PC3200.

But to the point, your ad is very specific that this is for PC-3200 DDR memory. It is not. The part numbers you have listed are for PC2-3200 DDR2 memory. This is somthing totally different, and incompatible with systems that would use what people might think they are buying. DDR is not DDR2!

The R stands for Registered, not DDR2.

I was interested in your auction when I thought it was DDR memory. Luckily I looked up the PNs to see it is not.

Wintec's page - http://wintecind.com/certifiedmemory/index_future.htm

I have now contacted eBay about your mistake since you seem unwilling to fix it. I would hate for someone to get memory they couldn't use based on your inaccurate listing. I nearly bid taking your word for what was being sold in the description.

Bottom line... If you don't know what you have in your hands, don't try to sell it! And if someone tries to help you, don't be a dumbass!

Hmmm... And here is another seller with the same exact memory for sale... similar listing... even the same picture... but they manage to at least mention PC2 and DDR2 in the heading, despite mentioning DDR in the body...

Ooh, and I got a response on my last note above, although it makes no sense to me...

the part number is on there for two reasons one for a person to do due diligence to make sure it is what they want. And number 2 is to make sure we hold nothing back. So why do you not move on since it does not fit yours so I may answer questions about it.

A few years ago I bought 2x512 Corsair PC2-4300PRO(with leds) on ebay for about $60. The seller advertised it as something completely different but had the correct pics. No one else bid on it so I was the winner. That ram was selling for $250 at the time. Good ram with 3-3-3-8 timings.
