Is there any good freeware out there that will allow me to test the speed of my computer? I want to see how fast the RAM or processor is working. At the same tiem it would be good to have some type of overview from the program about what the numbers mean.

there are a bunch of benchmarks out there that will do it...

Sandra from www.sisoftware.net is good

And although far less popular, this one is simpler and quicker...

http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php

They both will give basic data on components and will test your speeds as compared to other system's speeds.

Both awesome titles, CPU-Z is great if your a hardcore overclocker trying to get your system stable and you want to read speeds/voltage readings on the spot.
