unless of course you need to connect to the interweb for authentication (Steam, etc) or multi-player, then you're screwed

Besides, how much is it REALLY slowing your machine down?

First off, even for purely gaming purposes, use an A/V. I use Grisoft AVG Free on my XP install that I purely use for gaming. Worth it and has no noticable impact on performance. As for spyware...just don't be stupid and use some secure settings in your browser.

EC, as far as I am aware, there are no AV programs that scan Linux files for virii. There's some Linux AV programs that scan documents for well-known Windows virii and the like, but that's just for network shares. Rootkits, on the other hand, are a bit of a problem, but not really on desktops, and as such, I only use RKHunter and CHKROOTKIT every so often on servers to check for anything out of the ordinary.

And if I change the NIC (dual onboard), then Vista will pretty much be useful on only two motherboards over the years of that license? I smell some problems from many disgruntled hobbyists. That'll change.

clamav will scan linux files for virii. It is primarily used to scan e-mail on mail servers, but can be used via command line to scan files and directories as well.

But like I said before....it scans for Windows executable virii. If you're running a Linux OS, you're immune to those Windows executable virii...so long as you're not running Wine. Bu even if you are running Wine, all you need to do is remove the ~/.wine directory and re-install the Windows app(s).

I was doing a little stumbling...and found THIS!!!!!

Read it through (the posts), some are quite funny.

Still damn funny how quickly hackers can find ways around anything MS throws at the public in anti-piracy tactics.
