I've looked all over the internet on this one so im creating a thread as a last resort lol

i had to warranty my seagate drive (sata) and i just got the new one last night and i was trying to get it installed on my system. I'm using my familys corporate pro cd (sp1)

I know that sp1 doesnt doesnt work for sata drivers but when im booting windows i hit f6 to load the drivers. I've tried the drivers for the motherboard for the hdd and something else i forget what but. None of the drivers seem to load. Theres a spot where it says it installed the drivers but the next screen still says there's no hdd

I put the hdd in my buddies comp and his win xp sp2 and his doesnt see it either. I called seagate from work for options but they didnt wanna help me since i wasnt in front of my comp... when it was plugged into my buddies system it wasnt recognized at all was in device manager or the disk manager. windows however, did make the noise that something was connected when i plugged and unplugged it when the system was on (i know im not supposed to do that but it was worth a shot lol)

any suggestions or do you think i have a bad drive? I can feel it spinning and such when i rotate it in my hand so i know its got power flowing and i know its hooked up to the proper port.

my setup
asus a8v deluxe mobo
amd 64bit 3800 socket 939
seagate 120gb primary (not working)
seagate 80gb (slave, bios sees this on bootup)
x850 pe edition
then the other stuff like burners and such

Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit Windows? Are you using the same bit drivers? Are the drivers your using from ASUS CD? There should be a utility on there to create the "F6" driver floppy.

I was going to ask if the MB was able to support SATA II (3.0 Gb/s). Beacuse if it can't, and the drive is native SATA II, then you'd want to use the jumper to force SATA I.

Had to do that recently on a friends MB that did not support SATA II....
