i have no idea what issue i have going now but im probably going to have to refromat (its been a couple years neways) I'm running pro on my system, theres a few different issues but the main one right now is when windows loads and i click on my profile it takes a looooonnnng time to load im talking like 5 minutes to fully boot up and when it does none of the network stuff works at all. i get the icon in the bottom corner that shows it trying to aquire my ip address but it never actually does... I've tried restoring the system but it fails everytime i try it. I've run my checkdisk reg cleaners spyware basically everything that I need to get it back to normal and nothing did it. I recently moved so I don't have all of my comp disks with me so i tried a spare home version to see if that would work but it didn't everytime i boot from cd it says that its inspecting my hardware then reboots so i dont know whats up with that.... im going to get my pro disk hopefully tomorrow but is there anything else i should try before i lose all my data with a reformat?

There's a lot of possibilities here.

Hardware problem, viruses, root-kit, etc...

Best place though is probably a fresh install if it's been a couple of years.

got it done last night at 4am and i started this around 10pm AHHH lol.... i tried to repair it first since i have years and years worth of video i cannot lose at any cost. lucky for me the repair took 3 hours for some reason and files (.dll) kept failing during install so that was sweet.... needless to say the repair didnt work so i grabbed a junk drive threw it in as a slave someone got windows to boot one last time for me, i was able to back up the important stuff then i just wiped the drive. everything is running great now. the only issue is going to be reinstalling the million programs i need to get everything back to where it was. it was an exciting night to say the least lol.... just glad my system works again Smile

also what does everyone use for a registry cleaner? There's a lot of mixed reviews about all the different ones out there... any reccomendations?

Suggestion. Once you have it all setup the way you want it, make a full system back up. Then if you have a problem you can just restore from there and go.

(And no, I rarely take my own advice... Laughing )
