It's been awhile since this topic was live but I found the answer at least for CentOS 4.3 Linux. If you use another linux distro you will have to install vncserver if it isn't.
Assuming you install vncserver there is very little setup. Here are the commands I had to do:
vncpasswd
service vncserver start
vncserver (should display the fqdn and port number to connect then create the necessary files)
service vncserver status (to ensure it is running)
After that go into Applications-Preferences-Remote Desktop. Check off the first two boxes and close the window. (disreguard the port number of 0 (zero))
After that is setup on my WindowsXP machine I loaded up the vncviewer...put in the ip.address:0 and press ok and enter password you set with "vncpasswd".
