DirecTV does not offer HDTV in my area yet.

I have the Westinghouse 42" HDTV that bascically has no converter built in...it's more like a big monitor, capable of up to 1080p.

I have an up-convert DVD player, and that's great.

I was wondering if there isn't some device out there that could take standard satellite signal and upconvert it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

AFAIK you need an HDTV converter to do 780/1080. unless you have the DirecTV box, you're probably out of luck.

???? How does DTV not offer it "in your area" All the signals come off of the same satellite(s) ????

I have the DTV TiVo and an InFocus 61md10. works great. I don't get local HD programming but I hardly miss it and DirecTV added the west coast network channels so I can view CSI in HD. Grin

You should probably just be happy with digital 480P. Fact is, most upconverting DVD players can only offer a marginal improvement over the standard 480P output of a good progressive scan DVD player. Spending what could potentially be $1000's of dollars to upconvert doesn't seem like very good bang for the $ but you asked for it.

I'm sure there are others but I've never tried any of them. As with anything in this arena you usually get what you paid for so beware.
