ever wonder how much time your computer spends checking for

renovation

virus ,security patchs , spam and doing updates . on a daily or weekly basic ?
i bet we all be suprized to know how much cpu and hard drive time is spent . per week Cool

I know......It's way too much, but it is absolutely nessesary unfortunately (spam and viri creation should be capital crimes)

I just emerge --sync && emerge -NDuva world once a week and update as necessary. Spends a while compiling if it's large programs - but all together, probably still less than all the time Windows is doing virus db updates, windows updates, other program updates, spyware/adware scans, etc.

EDIT: And compiling is now very fast at my place with my desktop, my sister's desktop, and my laptop all balancing the compile process for eachother with distributed C compiling (DISTCC).

No anti-virus software, rarely do updates/download security patches and I've had my first spyware run-in sense I reinstalled windows at christmas. Not too much.
