Ok need help finding s-video to RCA cables.

I would liek to use my laptop computer to play DVDs on a TV. When I travle to my paretns shore house they do nto have a DVD player so it would be nice to use the laptop instead of purchasing a stand alone DVD player.

Yes I know that DVD players are super cheap - just humor me and help me in my search.

The TV has audio (2) and video (1) RCA type inputs. There is no S-viedo input on the TV. The laptop only has an s-video output and no RCA type connections.

So what I need is a s-viedo to RCA cable. Need a male s-viedo end that will split off to 3 RCA male connectors. I definitly want to have both the audio and viedo connectiosn coming out of the s-viedo.

I have found some of these connectors in the intenet but they all seemed to cost around 15-20 dollars. Somethign seems funny about that to me. I would think a cable like this could be had for 5-10 dollars. Heck they have a DVD player at wallmart for $30 so how the heck coudl a simple cable like that cost more than half that???

IF you know of a place to find these sheep let me know.

What you need is a stereo jack (1/8") to 2 RCA plugs for audio (this will be plugged in the headphone jack on your laptop) and a S-Video to RCA converter which usually comes with a good video card (heck, I think I have one in my desk drawer).

I have an S-Video to RCA video adapter; and its perfect for a notebook too since it is only one-inch long by quarter-inch round. As for sound, you will need a mini-stereo plug eigth-inch to stereo RCA outputs. That is not going to be an easy find, but it exists. You could also use the laptop speakers.

Go to Radio Shack. They have this stuff. 1/8" stereo headphone jack to two RCA audio jacks and the s-video to RCA video are fairly common...

ok so s-video does not cover sound at all??? How do DVD players and TVs with s-viedo work? DO they still need the components for audio connection??

I have never had s-video so that is why I never knew anyhting.

I have seen cables that are 3-in-1 and they have the mini stero jack built in and the s-video included but they are like $25. Oh well guess that is all I can do. Just seems strange since you can seriously purchase a DVD player for $30 at wallmart.

When using S-Video you have to use RCA jacks for sound.

FYI, after seeing this post/link, I ran out to RadioShack and bought that piece. Works very well, for what I needed from my laptop to TV stuff.
