After a few months of not using it, I tried to boot up Windows today (felt like playing some COD2). Well, when I rebooted from Linux and selected Windows, it started to boot, and then went right back to POST. I tried again; it asked me if I wanted to boot up into Safe Mode. I figured I might as well, and still, same thing. It showed a list of drivers being loaded, and then showed the Windows XP loading screen, but for only a half a second, and again, back to POST.

Only hardware changes I did was cleaning out my rig of any dust and putting some cable management in my case, but Linux is running fine; don't know why Windows wouldn't.

Any clues?

It's XP Pro SP2, btw.

Well I figured out the problem. I changed my BIOS to use AHCI instead of PATA-Compatble (whatever the option is) last month, but never got the driver for it installed on Windows. I switched back to the compatibe option and Windows boots now.

Anyone know where I can get the Windows AHCI drivers to install in the Windows userspace?

Usually from the chipset manufacturer. Easiest way is to do an in-place upgrade; aka reinstall of Windows. You save all of your settings, files, and drivers, and it allows you to use F6 to install new chipset/RAID drivers.

If I'm wiping Windows off here, it's not being reinstalled. I only have it on here now to play COD2 and a few other games hat Cedega / Wine doesn't yet support in Linux. I'll see about downloading it from Intel or ASUS. If that fails, I guess I'll live switching between AHCI and PATA-Compatible mode when I need to switch between the two OSes.
