SLAX small Linux OS Server version

Ok, I dont know if its just me or what.. But I cant get the SLAX server version to delete an old NTFS partition and then create new Linux partitions.

I have SLAX up and running(24hrs, stable as a rock) on a PIII 700 with 256mb of ram, completely residing in the memory. ...runs great. But trying to get the HDD ready for Linux is getting to be a turd. I wanna install the server version directly on the HDD to run from there install of from a boot-cd and off the memory.

Tips and suggestions please.

Is SLAX geared for hard drive installation? Maybe a different distribution would be better?

I think you might want to try getting rid of that NTFS partition with something else, like maybe connecting it to a Windows system temporarily and using Disk Management.

You can install SLAX to a hdd for sure.. found the bits of info to do that.

just that fdisk /dev/hba1 etc, etc.. just doesn't wanna do the trick.

yeah, I can resort to Window's Disk Man. if all else fails. Hoping to do this the hard way and learn something, lol

I think I may have found a partition tool that runs from a floppy, gonna try it in a few.

fdisk /dev/hdX

X being the letter of where your IDE drive is in the system.

cfdisk is also good, I prefer it over fdisk.

BTW guys.. sorry for asking such stupid questions.. I've only tinkered with Linux over the years.. never really got into it much. played with Redhat 6.0 and 9.0 for a few months at a time, and learned some stuff working with our (formerly ours) servers for the CATV broadband.

Try checking out Suse (from Novell), it's a pretty user friendly distro.
