I haven't even looked, but are there motherboards out there that support 2x Intel Dual Core CPUs? I have 2x D 840s... dual core 3.2 GHz with 2MB cache each.

Cool

I Just know of server motherboards for dual dual core Opterons and Xeons. I'd like to have one of those servers though. You know it's going to be a good day when you see 8 CPUs in `cat /proc/cpuinfo` (4 cores and 4 virtual HT).

Yeah - I figure if one exists that it isn't really an 'enthusiasts' system... but it would be cool! Well, not cool, they're each a blazing 80C right now! Laughing

And they're not throttling? I thought they'd throttle at max temp of IIRC 69C

How do I identify throttling? Two boards, two different coolers... similar results!

If you want SMP Intel, you'll have to go the Xeon route.. much like you have to go Opteron for AMD.

Giga-Byte and MSI make some fine overclocking multi-socket mobo's. I'm gonna get the MSI Opteron mobo with SLI (the only SMP mobo with SLI).

Hey, you can kick it old school and get SMP form AMD... Laughing The Bigbruin server is actually a Dual MP2800+ machine.

I looked too, I guess 775 and SMP don't go together... damn. What does your work server have Cheeze?

OMG - I think I was looking at F, not C! I just changed coolers at saw 75, and thought, OK, down 5 degrees. Then I noticed the F to the right of that! What a dumbass! Its below 30C at idle on a Gigabyte G-Power Pro Cooler! But all of this is according to the motherboard sensor.
