Help me pick my next upgrade...
This system is used primarily for gaming.
DFI Expert MB
AMD Opteron 148
2 x 80gb SATA 2 Raid 0
1 x 120gb SATA 2
eVGA 7800GT
1gb (2x512) Corsair TwinX1024-4000PRO
My immediate choices:
1. Upgrade eVGA 7800GT to 7900GTX (~250) with eVGA Step-Up program
2. Purchase second eVGA 7800GT (~300)
3. Upgrade RAM to 2gb - [link]
What do you think I should upgrade? |

Seriously though... not sure what more you'll get out of that system! |

hehe Honestly, probably nothing...at least not until the next big MMO comes out in 6 months LOL
Well, I do need the ram upgrade. The Ram I have gets maxed out in DDO pretty quickly and get some lag after about 2 hours of game play until I reboot. So will most likely go that route if I do the upgrade. Still debating it...
Another choice is to put the money aside for CES 2007 heheheh |

I wouldn't bother with the 2gb upgrade, just my _________________ ABAP? What did you call me? |

Yea, think I'll go for the "Step-Up" upgrade from e-VGA, just go from a 7800gt to 7900gt (heard there's a bit of a difference) and shouldn't cost me much, maybe $50.
Then I'm going go go ahead and get the 2gb of ram. Really need it for DDO. Watch the usage LED's on the ram I have, and everytime I get to playing, one stick is 100%, and the other is about 95% with some lag spikes. So I'm gonna go ahead and place the order for 2gb |

The reviews I read made the 7900 look a little better than the 7800, but only by a slight margin. Apparently nvidia reduced the # of transistors and die size, but # of pipelines and such is the same. They seemed to imply that the transistor reduction made the 7900 more efficient than the 7800 even though the basic chip design didn't change much. If the numbers I've seen are correct this is probably your best option for an upgrade, but I truly believe this and your other listed upgrade paths are only going to be noticeable in benchmarks, not in "real world apps and game play". That being said, if you have the $$$ and desire.......go for the video card and then memory. _________________
