Not a beer drinker here (nor will I ever be), but the reason the bottles taste better, and the cans aren't quite as good ("bitter" as acruxka said) is probably the aluminum. I'm sure it has to mix in with the beer a little bit.

bottled beer generally does taste better than cans for that reason... and Guinness is about the only thing I'll get in a can, if given a choice...
