rookie... Orange or Red should only be used as Cross over cables.

I use yellow for crossover, but the same idea. Grey and blue for normal and yellow for x-over.

Didn't know that you IT folk color categorized the cat5 cables by color, Ill have to pay more attention!

It's a good way to be able to see exactly what goes where, particularly on large patch bays red for x-over, orange for fiber, light blue for plenum grade, yellow for giga links, etc.
At home you can go with the decorator colors (pink and mauve for EC's room Wave )

Yep, it's good to keep things color coordinated for quick visual references.
