It's pretty obviouse that more is better, if at any point your memory becomes full and the system starts paging the disk then you should buy more memory...

In the case of BF2 it will gobble up 1.5gb or more if it can.

Realistically though it, and any other game currently, will run fine with 1gb (with the right hardware of course)... it will just run better with 2. You have to do your own cost/benefit analysis to see if you really want to spend the money...
