With some of these new massive heatpipe air coolers, do you think the water cooling market is going to shrink?

Watercooling was always somewhat risky, but people wanting extreme performance did it for the cooling power. Now, some of these air coolers get you down in the same range, for less money, and no leaks.

Extreme overclockers will still probably go for water or something else, but it seems like water cooling was starting to surge, but now might be fading...

What do you think?

Yeah I kind of think it is fading. I Have three systems in my house and only one of the back up rigs is water cooled and mostly because that is how the system came to me and I dont have a heat sink to replace it with. Between the gains made in air cooling and the fact that newer systems are so damn fast anyway it just seems people are not as likely to take the risk of water cooling to go to the extreme limits.

I think "Water" cooling is gonna die out, but it'll be replaced by something else that wil cool even better. Maybe a rig that uses something like freon.

I actually have two very nice complete kits... vga/chipset/cpu blocks, big rads, pumps, etc... just sitting on my shelf.

They ran for a long time, but the maintenance and fear of leaks made me pull them. They were definitely quieter and better coolers than any air setups I've had... but air is so quick and easy.

I think that the simplicity of air cooling while being much mroe cost-effective will push water cooling to the side. Will it still exist? Sure...but I don't think it will ever be mainstream or anywhere close.

Heck, I considered water cooling for my new setup, but when I looked at the price and the bang for the buck ratio, air cooling was a MUCH better choice.
