I have a computer on my bench that gives me an Explorer.exe error when it boots to Windows XP Home. It says that it caoont find the browseui.dll file. I am assuming through some research that this is an automatic windows reinstall, and that is what i plan to do, but I was eondering if anyone could tell me where to find the location of that file in windows so I can try and manually put it back in there and see if I can get the machine to boot. The error message word for word is this:

"Explorer.exe - Unable to locate component"

and then in the grey area below:

"the application has failed to start because BROWSEUI.dll was not found. Reinstalling the selected application may fix this problem."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (I will probably end up re-fromatting but I wanted to try manually.) Thanks! Confused Confused

hmmm you can try pushing
control alt delte then
file then new task (run...)
and type explorer.exe in there it should redisplay the error if explorer is truly broken...and if so it will prolly be easeir to repair windows or use the recovery console to fix it...

Try replacing your default shell to something other than explorer.exe? I dont know much about doing it, other than I have a friend who does it and its quite possible.

It's called Litestep. I use it. It's awesome. You can change EVERYTHING in your shell. Go get started at www.shellfront.org and then visit litestep.net (you have to register there) and you're all set. You can do some amazing stuff with Litestep and, in fact, everytime a lazy coworker (or lazy cow for short) comes over to stare at my screen, they ask if I'm running linux. Laughing

Are you still compatible with all the normal windows applications when you run it?
