i managed to bust the CPU socket changing a CPU (don't ask me how). I'm pretty sure it shoudl be easy to replace if i can find a new one.

It's a socket 754 PGA. I'm hoping to not buy a whole new motherboard. Any ideas anyone where to get one from?

Thanks

The socket? Or the retention bracket? The bracket can be found... the socket sounds like trouble! Mr. T

ohhhh yes, it's the actual socket, the plastic creamy coloured thing. it's just left the pinholes in the motherboard. i could try and post pics later. I take it it's a new motherboard job then? Expensive as it's a barebones so trying not to replace the whole mother. Sad

I know you said not to ask, but I can't resist. How did you manage doing this?

You're screwed, man. The ZIF Socket isn't exactly one of those things that you can just change out on a whim. It's a "I guess it's time to change the whole motherboard" thing.
