With Windows XP Pro x64 out, do you think more people will switch to 64bit systems?

For a short time you can do a free upgrade on your Windows XP Pro license to a Windows XP 64 license. Not sure of all the stipulations though. I do know that if you do the upgrade, you can't go back to XP Pro though, so be cautious.

That being said, I am running Windows XP 64, been running it for about 6 months now (yes, legitimately). It's been great for me, not had any issues. Some incompatibility, until the hardware manufacturers get around to releasing 64bit drivers.

Biggest pain in the butt is the Logitech MX1000. There is no 64bit drivers, so it does the same thing it does on XP unless you update to the current release of their Mouseware drivers. It will jump from one point on the screen to the edge of the screen. Very annoying!

Did you use the drivers with XP or SP1? If so, they had that issue.

If you downloaded the drivers from Logitech, or SP2, they were updated to resolve the issue.

Oh yea, you really only notice it in mouse intensive applications, like gaming.

What increase does a 64-bit proc and OS offer? Much speed increase? Hardly noticable? In the next year or so I'm thinking up gettingof building a 64-bit system and get that xp pro 64 like how i got this xp pro cd (i'll give you a hint...i didn't have to reach in my wallet to pay for this POS ;-)), and find out how well linux runs on 64-bit. I heard x86_64 is just as stable as x86, but i'm itching to try it out myself.

Really depends on your use, and whether things are optimized for 64bit computing.

Right now, there is not much written for 64bit computing, while there is a good performance boost, when things are specifically written for 64bit computing, that performance boost will increase.

I think Hellfire has it right on the money. In the end it's all about what you can/want to do with it and do you have the software/hardware that can take advantage of it?

I am interested to try it... Maybe on the next site server, maybe...

Weird... This thread started as spam, and actually went well... The OP was spamming the boards trying to pimp his site... Laughing
