Ok...don't laugh please...my neice forgot her password and I was wondering if there was anyway to reset this so she can log on without creating a new user. Any ideas?

With Win98SE, you should be able to just click Cancel and get past the password stuff. Once inside, do a search for all .pwl foles and delete them.

I think...

that should work. SE isn't really secure, not hard to break into.

You should also be able to change it from within Safe Mode.

Yeah, with 95 and 98 you can just click Cancel. The only exceptions would be a password set in the BIOS(can be reset by clearing the CMOS, usually via a jumper on the mobo), or if her account was on a network server(Server admin would have to reset, then).

There really isn't any point in using a password with Win98. If she wants to prevent other people from using her computer she should use a BIOS password at bootup.

Yeah, the only reason I said "I think..." is that I haven't messed with passwords in 98 in several years. Let us know if that works or not
