Strange USB problem...

I have issues with the NF3/NF4 chipsets and USB.

I am running an IOGear USB KVM and my MX700/Elite Keyboard setup.

On any chipset other than the above mentioned, everything works great, plug and play. On the Nforce chipsets, the mouse/kb is detected and installation goes fine, but I get only scattered mouse movements.

If I roll the mouse around, I get a random cursor movement every 30 seconds or so. The same with the keyboard.

If I bypass the KVM, the Elite setup works fine by itself.

This has been the same on the two Nforce 3 based MSI NEO boards and the Nforce 4 DFI board. My older Nforce2 DFI works no problem.

I have changed the USB jumper from +5v to +5VSB and it did not help. Installing the USB 2.0 driver did not help.

Any suggestions? (Besides get rid of KVM)

Weird, I thought it was just me. I had the nForce 3 250GB board and my IOGear USB KVM worked similarly. No clue as to why, but I eventually abandoned the KVM... then the whole system.

Have you tried a different keyboard and mouse just to see what it does?

Also, what happens when you don't install the Logitech drivers?

I have tried it both with and without the Logi drivers.

I don't have another USB keyboard to test your first theory.

Part of the issue might be the fact that the Elite set only uses one USB for both kb/mouse from the wireless pickup to the KVM. But it all works on other chiopset boards.

I even tried to use a powered hub thinking it was a power issue. No help.

Is there a setting in the BIOS to use a USB keybaord at boot up?

Yes I have tried both USB keyboard and mouse support and with both diasbled. No difference.

Very strange though... it sorta sounds like the KVM isn't supplying the right signal that the Nforce3/4's are expecting.

USB KVM's seem to do this sometimes (especially w/ wireless keyboards/mice), might lose contact during power saving?
I ended up tossing 2 and going back to my old ones (1 serial, one p/s2) which don't sound as cool but seem bulletproof

I have used an IOGear USB KVM on so many motherboards that I find it hard to believe it would be the KVM's fault... Mine has to have been connected to 15-20 motherboards, but only two nForce3 250GB based ones.

I actually sent the first board back because of the USB issue... When the replacement did the same thing, I just stopped using USB. It wasn't just USB KVM action that suffered... directly connecting a USB mouse or keyboard to the board was also choppy.

I don't think it's the KVM, just the way USB seems to handle them.
It doesn't appear to be a power problem, but it is a commonly reported, intermitent problem.
