Which is a good way to go? Currently has the XP 2500, and can get a AMD 754 MB really cheap.

Should he stick with the AMD XP 2500 or spend the $200 and get the Sempron 3100?

I'd personally stick with the 2500+, not enough of a diffrence to go to a sempron 3100+ to me to spend the extra $$

semprons are made to replace durons they are like the celeron of amd. the barton preforms and overclocks way better than the sempron. if anything spend the 200 on a 939 winchester 3200.

like he said sempron is the celeron of intel... low end... i have a 939 3500 and i love it... spend like 170 even and get a 3000 just spend a few extra bux than what you want to... itll last longer w/o having to worry about upgrading every year

Mid year, the dual core 939 and 940 chips will be out. I think that your upgrade path should be clear now... Wink

I made my dad a 754 system 1gb of nice ram and a 120gb barracuda hdd. for 1017$ mid last year the 754 should be pretty cheap by now.
