After looking at AT&T's service on a D-Link Gateway here... Check out DesignTechnica's look at Vonage's VoIP service, here.

My beta test of AT&T's VoIP program ends Tuesday... It worked ok, but now that they want me to pay, I don't want it. It would cost more than my current land line, which doesn't wreck my internet speeds... Anyway, they just confirmed that they don't want the hardware back... cool with me! Grin

That's what I thought might be the end result of the AT&T test.
Having been " THE Phone company" at one time, AT&T just doen't seem to get the picture, people are leaving their service in droves cause they charge too much and return too little.
Thanks for the vontage review link, seriously thinking of going to VoIP, and they are the company with the most experience, plus that is their only business, they have to make it work.
All the big phone companies are racing to get on the VoIP bandwagon. But more as a sideline, to sell you other service.

Soon I will be again. I am signing up for Vonage... Wait until I do, so I can refer you... Laughing - With the referal there, the person signing up gets a free month, and the refering person gets money off their bill! Grin

Cable... with speeds at like 6500/1000

You have DSL, right? What does that do for you, since you need the phone line anyway?

Well they said I can have stand-alone DSL... It's a couple bucks more a month than I'm paying now, but it all it might work out to a lower cost.

VoIP is awesome! My ISP is Speakeasy, and they have their own VoIP service, which is only $24 a month, and it's sweet. I can call anywhere in the US and Canada for free, and it only uses up like 80kb of upload.

For anyone who knows a lot of people that they talk to online only, because they are long distance, I would STRONGLY recommend ordering VoIP. That is, as long as you have 256kb upload. I don't think 128 is enough =\ (I have 324kb upload).

So yea... the price would be at LEAST $5 cheaper, plus you get more service add-ons, like call waiting, 3-way calling and so forth, all for free.
