Hey all,

I picked up a one day special at Fry's today...$99.00

What do I have here? Is it a good chip? I know squat about Intel processors.

I know the board is kinda cheap, but those can be sold and replaced...

CPU:

Not bad... need a cooler to go with a new case? Laughing I have a few around...

I actually just bought a new socket 478 cooler... low profile, all copper (wiht thick base and thin fins), so I could use it in my mATX case and still use an optical drive (was interference due to height)...

$2.95 from ioCombo... Laughing - nice!

I am totally out of the loop with Intel stuff so no help there. I have dealt with Fry's enough to know you better get some power to the board and CPU and make sure they are good before your 30 days is up. I played hell with more than one of their combo deals trying to get a working one.

For that price it's a good deal. It's not their latest CPU, and not the top board, but it should be make for a very capable 2nd system, kids system, or any non-heavy game use system.

The board may be good for an upgrade down the road... Does support 800 MHz bus chips.

You wouldnt happen to have a silent cpu cooler fan laying around, would ya? Or maybe a small plastic attachment to convert 120mm fan to 80mm? My cpu fan is like a damn jet engine, i need to replace with something like 22dBA. I run athlon xp 2800+
