Hey guys, I'm looking to find the best video card I can for under $100 shipped.

I've looked at a couple... and not sure which chipset to go with...

9600SE -vs- FX5200 (can get both at around $60)

Or do I go up a little (and do I gain enough by doing so to justify the price)

9600 -vs- FX5700LE (Both are around $90... with the 9600 being just above and the FX5700LE being just under)

Any other thoughts? Suggestions?? Thanks!!

BTW - This is for a computer that will NOT be playing in high frame-rate games (i.e. no FPS), will be doing lot's of web surfing and word processing type work.

Personally I would go with the 9600SE if you are not worried about frame rates in games. ATI just seems to have better image quality to me/ And if you are not worried about gaming why go with the more expensive 9600?

I am way too ATI biased to comment on the NV cards, but the 9600 SE is a nice card for budget, it may be too much card for what you want possibly.

Remember, it wasn't that long ago that 32 MB SDR cards were doing word processing and web browsing just fine.

Didn't we browse the web and word process with under 1 MB cards???

Graphics card power = Games, thats it...

Yea, the computer will play some games, but not too many. So a good Mid-Low DirectX9 card would work great.

I'm a little leary on a referb card... last time I tried it I went through hell.

Nothing wrong with refurbs, just don't let a noob install it (ie, make sure Misty is home to handle it)! Laughing

Crucial has refurbs, too...
