So I signed up for some DSL through Yahoo!/SBC today, and they said it would be about 10 days before it was ready.

I have a router coming in the package through sbc, but I need an IEEE 802.11 b/g 54mbits/sec type II network card....anyone have a recommendation? Any advice on setting up my wire-less home network?

Brandon

I moved this thread to our hardware section... but have a few ideas for you.

One place to keep an eye on is Able Shoppers, as they have deals on wireless gear on a daily basis...

http://www.ableshoppers.com/

or a more specific list of 802.11g items:

http://www.ableshoppers.com/searchthismonth.shtml?Search=802.11g

Dr EvilCheeze is the network guy and may have better advice, but I like the Netgear and Linksys gear myself.

And, if you don't recognize the store names, you can't go wrong with our main sponsor (and I'm not just saying that for $$, they are good)... Newegg

I'm sure the other Brandon here (ThePMG) can help you.

Netgear is good, Asanté (a lesser known brand) is also good. D-Link isn't bad, Got a Belkin for my wife and it works just fine too.

(notice Linksys isn't on the list...)

Is SBC sending you a router/AP type deal? If not, and you have an old PC, I can recommend some really good router software (though you will still need an AP).

I just dumped my hardware router for a software setup, it's great.

SBC is including the wireless/wired router. I found a 802.11 b/g card for 29.99...I'll have to check the brand...is that a good price?

it was at office depot

Check out this one:

Asante AeroLAN AL5410-XG

It's $34.99 with a $15 MIR, makes it $19.99.
