They are for my two 40GB ATA-133 drives I use in RAID 0 on my water cooled system, which is now ultra quiet (mod write up coming soon)... I wanted to isolate the drives from the case for heat reasons, and also think it may make the drives quieter being in these enclosures. They each have their own cooling fan for circulating air in the front, and even if the heat/noise issues aren't greatly remedied, the swappability will be cool.
Anyone use things like this, and have input?
At that price, minus the standard 10% discount, and then my comission - couldn't beat the deal to experiment with.
Yeah, I've used the before for backup drives. I don't really like the removable bays for HDDs that are in all the time, they don't give me a good feeling, especially after one I used quit working a few days after I had it.
For cooling, I just put the drives in 5 1/4 bays and drill holes in the bay cover. There is a (Vantec I think) HDD bay that has a blower in it made for cooling the drives instead of being a removable bay. _________________ Due to a not-that-interesting turn of events, I am now known as Justin Danger.

These have a perf front with a small fan for cooling, so that should be cool... JimBowy reviewed a Vantec one recently for permanent drives... he didn't really like it as it defaulted to the fan being OFF at reboot!
