I know this is not new, but I'm sitten here going through the Newegg PATA RAID card options and can't seem to come to the conclusion as to the best purchase to make. I'll be running a couple of Diamond max 80 gig drives.

I know I would like ATA133 support. I am thinking RAID 1 array this time, I have lots of data that is not replaceable.

This card is the last thing necessary before I build the server.

I start at the low end ($17.00) and work my self up to the mid range ($140.00 or so).

I'm really liken the card with the onboard 256 SDR ram, is it worth the price? (Promise fasttrak SX4000)

What is the best bang for the RAID buck?

I missed it too!?! I don't have a "server" RAID card, but I like the products I've had from Promise and SIIG...

I turns out, I bought a couple of Hitachi SATA Drives (for a buddy) that don't like the AN7 and SIL controller (corruption issues). I gave him my Maxtors and adapters that I know work with that board, and kept the Hitachis. So now that I have SATA drives I threw up a coin and went with one of these:

Guess I'll find out if it works ok when time allows.

with that controller, you really ought to get another drive or two and run raid 5.

Yea, I wanted to make sure which drives I was going to end up with.

Now that I know, I think that would be a good idea!!!

Soon as I free up another 100 bonez that is...

Did a little research on the Hitachi 80 gig SATA HDD's. (aka DEATHSTARS)

GARBAGE!!!!

Newegg will get them back ASAP!!! This is the second set of these I have had, the first set corrupted almost immediately, these started to corrupt and are going back also, this time for refund.

Probably go for 3 Seagates.
