Anybody have experience with the new ATI AIW cards? Have a friend that's looking to get a card capable of capture, and is also planning to upgrade his ATI 9200. So figured maybe he could get an AIW to do it all for him vs buying a separate encoder.
How is the quality on the AIW?
Also, what kind of performance increase would he see going from a Radeon 9200 to Radeon 9600 or 9800? Or is the X600 series better? He doesn't want to pay for the X800's, as he only wants to spend around $300 - $400
I have never owned an Alli in Wonder but I think separate cards are a better choice. Video cards get out dated too soon but the capture card does not. So if you get an all in wonder card you end up having to upgrade both instead of just the video card. I have been through 3 video cards but still have the same capture card in my computer and it is doing just fine.

I do agree with Dad. However if you are going to get a AIW (and I have heard they are great cards) Get the very best you can possibly afford for exactly the reasons that Dad listed.
His use is only for occassional encoding off his Satellite PVR whenever he gets something he really wants to keep.
It's going to be in his main system, and figured an AIW would allow him to get a better card now, rather than splitting his cash between a Radeon (or GeForce) and a Hauppauge 250.
