Posted: Fri, 19 Jun 2009 01:07:40 Post Subject: HTPC(?) Proposal...or Another Wild Hair |
|
|
Thought I had put this out, but can't find it so hope it isn't a "dual post". Had one out about this time last year but this one is "different".
Okay time for another wild hair that will hopefully get me off my ar$ and get the balance of my ‘puter builds finished.
Earlier this year I ended up changing a lot of builds which has left me with more spare parts than I want the wife to keep reminding me about.
Anyway the wild hair is another build that MIGHT just work with the wife. She has several shows on TV that she faithfully watches and a lot of activities are planned around them. So I’m about to propose to her that if certain parts don’t sale how about using them to build a VCR eerrrr……..HTPC(?). This will have to be done will a minimum of cost or trading. So here is what I have and would like suggestions if this stuff would work and what else I need. This will be a simple record and watch setup.
Case: TBD (have the one left over from Kermit the Folder)
Mobo: Abit AN-M2HD LE (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127036)
CPU: Brisbane 4000+ or Opteron 1210
HSF: Stock Brisbane, Zalman CNPS7500 or 8000
Memory: 2 x 1024 (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ or OCZ2P800R22GK)
GPU: On board 7025PV
Sound: On board through HDMI
HDD: OS >> 74GB Raptor
Storage >> 250GB, 400GB, or 2 x 400GB SATA
I guess that leaves me needing a tuner card correct and what else? Also which of the part choices would "work better"? This will not be OTA but cable hook up.
So there you have it! _________________ As of 02/01/11

Thats pretty much what I did..had spare parts and have put together a HTPC. Don't have a tuner card yet, but I'm just gonna use it to watch the DVD and HD rips, listen to music and probably watch shows via Hulu. I'm using Thermaltake's DH101 HTPC case for it and it comes with iMon and iMedianHD that while a little finicky is working pretty well. _________________
