So I have a server that is going belly up (it's running on an AMD Athlon 1800+ under W2k if that gives you an idea on how long it's been running) so I have to replace it. It does our family e-mail, web, etc.

Went to NE and bought 2GB of DDR2-800, a AMD X2-4000+, 2x250GB SATA drives, and a motherboard. Price with shipping, $372.28

Yikes Bang Head Almost temping to replace my system with the server system.

Gotta love it.
AMD x2 prices are incredible right now. DDR2 prices aren't too bad either.

yeah, I hate looking at upgrading my DDR ram for my 939 system. easily twice as much as DDR2 ram, and not much of a selection.

That's what kids are for.........................give them your old system, call it an upgrade and buy yourself a new system.

Problem is, my wife has gotten wise to my ways. You can only upgrade the kids computers so many times before she figures it out.......................... Lucky for me, she knows I'm a geek at heart ( I think the tip off was the 5 computer folding farm I built a few years back Smile )and usually lets me indulge my vices. GrinGrinGrin This only works if I do things like renovate bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchens (next on the list........... Yikes Yikes )

/me doesn't have kids, or a wife.

I could upgrade whenever I want, but that would develop a serious problem..
