My question is if i upgrade to 7600gt or x1800xt (or even 7900gt) whether or not performance will be held back by my athlon 64 3000+ (and also what if i overclocked it --/how much of an overclock would be needed) Thanks in advance.

with any games your going to be playing your CPU will bottleneck your graphics card with that setup.

Not with ANY games. With most NEW games, MAYBE. Those aren't top of the line video cards, they're mid-range.

I'd guess that an OC to 2.4Ghz (~4000+ range) should remove the CPU as a bottleneck for either of those video cards. If you've got a 939 Venice, that shouldn't be too hard to hit either. If you're on a Newcastle (socket 754), you probably won't get that high.

You could get an X2 3800, no more problems.

the cpu will be slightly bottleneck, but in most games, the gfx is the main horse. If you oc it a little bit, you shouldn't be held back by the cpu. since 3000, runs at 2000+ and the highest amd cpu is just 2600Mhz I think. So you should be fine.

thanks for your input. It is socket 939 so hopefully i can overclock it easily enough. I think i will go with the 7600gt and just overclock the cpu for now. anyway thanks again for your inputs.
