I just signed up for Vonage yesterday and things seem to be going smoothly. I do want to test it out for a few more weeks to make sure everything goes as planned.
Why did you drop AT&T? I heard the voice quality is perfect. To me, that extra $5 is worth it to never have to worry about what I sound like on the phone. With Vonage, I have heard a couple echos (not enough to make me want to drop the service though) and one person said I sounded kind of weak. I'll need to do more testing to be sure.
I wanted to get your impressions of AT&T's service. The extra features of Vonage are nice but I have a feeling that everyone will have the same features soon anyway. So what made you drop the service?

I dropped AT&T because of a few reasons... they didn't let you keep your landline phone number, which Vonage does... the price from AT&T is higher per month than I paid for a standard landline from Verizon... and the quality of service wasn't quite good enough, most likely because they were just coming out of beta testing at that time.
Hopefully service has gotten better, but as far as I know, price and the phone number option has not. Vonage wins there, as they will keep your current number when you sign up, and they have a plan for $24.99 that is just a bit better than my current Verizon plan.
I hear ya on the price. I was being selfish and thinking everyone got the $29.99 plan from Vonage. To add an extra $5 a mnth for AT&T for great calls wouldn't be a biggie for me and it would still be lower than my home phone through Qwest (I'm in Seattle).
I did notice that you can transfer your number over through AT&T now.
If anyone else here has AT&T service, I would love to hear your thoughts on call quality. I've read a few other boards on the topic but everyone seems to blast AT&T for bad experiences in the past. I still haven't found a good review on it.

The poor throughput you reported for data transfers made while a voice call was active is almost certainly due to an underpowered CPU in the DVG-1120M. Even the fastest VoIP codec uses only 64kb/s in each direction, plus a little header overhead. So your Internet data throughput during a call should have decreased by no more than 64kb/s even if voice traffic is given unconditional priority over data traffic. The actual drop should have been even less considering that most VoIP services use codecs slower than 64 kb/s.
The fact that your throughput dropped to almost nothing during a voice call can only be the fault of the unit, either because of an underpowered CPU or a firmware bug of some sort that causes lots of data packets to be lost while a voice call is active.

I know this is long after the fact but I read this link and was concerned when I received a dLink DVG-1120M as a replacement AT from AT&T.
I too found that the connect speed while talking on the phone, through the AT was 10% of what it was when I hung up!!!!!
I called AT&T tech service, while not the brightest people, they are always very nice and try to help.
Seems all I had to do was to clone my PC's MAC address into the AT's WAN MAC Address clone and my speed jumped to 90% while on the phone....
I have just done the speed test with my Primus VOIP service on a DVG-1120
Using the nyc.speakeasy.net test (average of 2 tests each)
Without call: With Call:
Down: 985K 1150K
Up: 325K 250K
This is a Shaw Cable connection (Cybersurfer Wave modem). Seems like there is little difference on download and slight degradation of upload...
I guess they have tweaked the protocols since the early days results reported above!
