Wife confiscated my A40 on the vacation.

I get to buy myself a new camera. I am looking at the Canon G6 for $479 or the Canon Pro 1 for $579.

Anyone have any opinions or suggestions for a rocken camera under $600.00?

Someone slap Woody and get him to chime in too, please!!!

I really like the Nikon's too (which means that I really like the Canon's too). Check this one out:

Coolpix 8700

And you can get it HERE for $554.69 with their free shipping options.

Funny you posted the link to Steve's and the Nikon... I was there reading that review just before checking back here...

I was also looking at the F828 from Sony but its a little steep at $717

I think what caught my eye about the Canons is the ability to control all the functions of the camera through a computer. Nice for setting the camera on a tripod and taking real good review pictures!!!

I'd go for a Cannon or Nikon before a Sony.

I went to Best Buy and Circuit City and of course they do not cater to these higher end cameras. I would really like to at least TOUCH one before I order anything.

So far the Pro1 from Canon is leading the pack...

Go find something like a Ritz Camera, or a Wolf Camera. They carry the better high end camera's. (Might even check Costco)

Geez, I never thought about a camera store Bang Head Bang Head

I did check Costco right after the other two stores.

I think Fry's might have one too, they carry tons...

Costco has the G6 online http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=10048631&whse=BC&topnav=&cat=3264&hierPath=79*3264*

Good thing about them, don't like it take it back to the store.

Go for the mark 2!!!....the cannon A series cameras are very good cameras they are durable and cheap...if you dont want to blow alot i would reccomend the cannon a 520...its 4 megapixel and only 200$ so it wont break the bank...if you are looking at an SLR camera take a look at the rebel series...sorry i am cannon fanboy like...i guess it rubbed off from my dad...

I like the Costco option, but can't justify spending an extra 100 bucks just to get it from Costco.
