After reading this story on /.,
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/08/21/143253&threshold=1&tid=111&tid=1&tid=218
I was curious how long it would actualy take for spammers to get ahold of an email address listed somewhere, and start the SPAM flowing.

So here goes: linux_owns_you@hotmail.com

(I figured that MS would like the user name)

You'll be waiting awhile, I have an @bigbruin.com addy and I get spam once every three months or something. Go to Genmay or something.

but your bigbruin.com addy isn't out and open for spiders and what not... or is it? And, believe it or not the owner doesn't sell his list (of 9 accounts) to other sources... Laughing

My @bigBruin account gets hit BIGTIME

So much so that I cannot allow it to download automatically.

Not sure why that all happened, but its annoying.

I go get the email from that account only every couple of months when I have the time.

Might as well foregetaboutit.

BB lets talk about deleting and creating a new account...

I have had only 3 real emails out of 10's of thousands!!!

I'm a little disappointed, nothing yet. If I don't get anything in a couple of days, I'll probably post that addy in a few more spots.

The server has SPAM Assassin installed, so every bad e-mail should come through with the Subject line modified with ******SPAM****** in it.

All I do is make a Message Rule in Outlook Express to delete all mail from the server before downloaind that has that subject. 10,000?!? I don't even get that many and mine has to be out there the most... Checking webmail doesn't get you SPAM Assassin protection, so I see I do get a good deal, but none of it comes down to my desktop on Outlook Express.

Ok, I exaggerate it's more like a thousand...

I have never set a message rule in Outlook express...I will try that.

most of your messages have that SPAM tag, right? Setting that rule should elimiate 99%+ of the spam from hitting your box.

should be better into the future as all reviews now have a link to your forum profiles instead of to an e-mail address. But, one day, if I ever have time... I'll convert the old reviews to the new format and make that change, too.
