I see the low end ones are still like $200... I know I could get some mobo reviews with it, and perhaps more coolers (yippee)...
Is there any advantage I would really see otherwise?
I don't like this Gigabyte nForce2 board and want to replace it, but may leave the Socket A platform all together! But, I do have an XP2800+ and an XP2500+ sitting here (as well as a few P4 boards and just one cpu)...
I think I would wait until the new pin layout comes out later this year. Would be a shame to spend that kind of money only to have an "obsolete" processor a few months from now. I do know a few that have them now and swear by them tho.
I have an AMD 64 3400+ now and it's great I've seen a great improvement over my AMD 2800, and in benchmarks It's about 20% faster than AMD XP 3400's.
In real world tests, I saw a HUGE performance boost in video editing. I do alot of video encoding for music videos to put onto my Archos, so this was a major win for me. That's using both Dr. Divx and encoding to DVD.
I tried to install Windows XP 64-Bit but it kept crashing on me
Hopefully going to get a better Hard-Drive and try it out in that machine. My good drive died on me and never replaced it, so that one is only using a Maxtor 40 Gig 5200 RPM drive
Didn't dare ask the boss if I could buy a new HD after I spent the money on the new processor/mb/etc. hehehe
rotfl yea, usually that's what I do anyways. She knows it and deals with it.
Been actually trying to decide about going towards the Netdisk type drive instead of a large drive for my main. Then just getting a 80gig SATA for my main.

I just picked me up a couple of Hitachi 160GB SATA drives, and a Promise SATA/PATA Raid controller.... I can't wait to ditch these slow arse Maxtors I got in here now.
