Well I live in a Bachelor apartment on the ground floor. My computer is on the floor and next to it I keep my external harddrive. The sink is a few meters from my computer desk and I just had a large pizza and tried to stuff the pizza leftover crusts down the sink drain since my trash can is overflowing with chocolate bar wrappers and soft tissue napkins. I left the water running to help the pizza crust moisten and go down the drain. In case I pass out from stroking the ol' sausage for too long again the water taps may be left running all night. And if my bachelor apartment floods I won't notice until my bed is wet and by then my harddrive will be completely submerged in water. If I wake up and recover my ioSafe Solo external drive out of the water I would like to know how much of my 500GB porn collection would survive if I had an ioSafe Solo?

Thanks in advance for your response.

For a realistic test for fire. I guess a most people have a cluttered desk. Test what would happen if there was an electical fire caused by to many things plugged in which could set the desk on fire. Which of course has the ioSafe Solo ontop of it. See if it survives the fire. So you can get a new computer start another cluttered desk and still have all your information.

As for water, it could be tested in an apartment like setting where the person above you has a water leek. Which then leaks ontop of your ioSafe Solo and all over your desk, dribbles down off your desk past into your computer. Shorting it out, maybe started it's own fire. So you'd have both fire and water tests to the drive.

I say you go Iron Chef on it... Get a big pot of water boiling and drop it in there with some lobsters, clams, shrimp, and ears of corn. Even if it can't survive the lobster bake, at least you have some good eats afterward... Grin

I guess a good test for this enclosure would be if we place it in a building that is just about to be demolished, with a lot of floors and it should be placed in the middle; near one of the dynamites,if possible, 'forgotten' there.

Now, I don't see how you could do this at the show, but I'd tie the IoSafe Solo on the back of a jet ski or a boat and drag it through the water for at least six hours. I'm thinking the IoSafe is tied to a line so it's bouncing along behind the boat. Sometimes it's underwater. Sometimes it's above water and then smacking back down into it. If you get up close to shore or a sandbar, it might drag a little in the sand. After you're done dragging it around, let it sit for another few hours (or days) on the shoreline. Maybe the tide comes up and soaks it again. Maybe it just sits in the dry sand and bakes a little in the hot Florida sun. You see, you can't always immediately get to your stuff after a storm, especially if you had to evacuate.

If the IoSafe Solo survives all that, I'm sold.

I'd either put it inside a washing machine and let it get wet and roll all over.

This way it'll both absorb a lot of water and tested for shocks! Grin

You can also use higher (boiling) temps in the washing machine.

If it survies that, you can always try to go over it with a tank! Laughing

It's not meant to survive being dropped or rolled or smacked around. Obviously the harddrive itself will skip. It just has a good insulation and outer material to protect from a hot fire or water damage. Inside is a regular harddrive with disks. Not like it's a solid state drive or anything. Obviously it's not meant to be driven over with a tank so why should it survive that? Or a washer/dryer!

Putting it through the dishwasher though, seems like a good test against water and heat. If it survives a full cycle in a dishwasher it would show you have done a good job constructing this thing to protect from water and fire/heat.

I say dishwasher.

That makes the contest much more limited in creativity...but ok.

How about testing the ioSafe Solo in a Carnival Porta John for a few days?
