Im going to be getting the Gigabyte X58 UD4P and it comes with a PCI x4 slot that is open ended. What exactly does that mean?? What kinda of cards can be used in that?? Can people link to any examples thanks _________________ Coolermaster HAF 932 II Coolermaster Real Power M1000 II Gigabyte EX58-UD5 II i7 920 @ 3.2Ghz II Corsair H100 CPU Cooler II 24gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz II 2x MSI GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attack SLI II Corsair F240 SSD II 2x3Tb Seagate (RAID0) II 1Tb Seagate 7200.12 II 1.5Tb Seagate 7200.11 II Pinoneer BluRay Writer
it's not pci x4 but rather pciex 4x. This is just like your x16 slot PCIE for your video card. This slot is meant to be used with pcie expansion cards like tv tuner, raid cards, etc.
PCIe expansion cards are designed that a 16x slot is compatible with x1, x4, x8, x16 cards. So by havnig it x4 lane, you can put x1 or x4 cards in it.
Thanks, why is the card "open ended"?? Because if it only fits x1 and x4 cards then it doesnt need to have an open end?? Does it? _________________ Coolermaster HAF 932 II Coolermaster Real Power M1000 II Gigabyte EX58-UD5 II i7 920 @ 3.2Ghz II Corsair H100 CPU Cooler II 24gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz II 2x MSI GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attack SLI II Corsair F240 SSD II 2x3Tb Seagate (RAID0) II 1Tb Seagate 7200.12 II 1.5Tb Seagate 7200.11 II Pinoneer BluRay Writer
mmh, I just check the picture of the mobo. I cannot be certain why is it open ended. I have a feeling that potentailly it will allow you to install larger card without being blocked. it would be best if you double check with giga to see why is that the case.
Oki doki will do. Its gopod to know i can use the x16 slits for all cards though _________________ Coolermaster HAF 932 II Coolermaster Real Power M1000 II Gigabyte EX58-UD5 II i7 920 @ 3.2Ghz II Corsair H100 CPU Cooler II 24gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz II 2x MSI GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attack SLI II Corsair F240 SSD II 2x3Tb Seagate (RAID0) II 1Tb Seagate 7200.12 II 1.5Tb Seagate 7200.11 II Pinoneer BluRay Writer
O that would be quite good, so id be able to run a GTX 295, possibly either a tv tuner or network card and then just place my old 7600gt into the 4x slot (will it run fine even though its only a 4x slot instead of the length of the card being a standard one??)
and run folding _________________ Coolermaster HAF 932 II Coolermaster Real Power M1000 II Gigabyte EX58-UD5 II i7 920 @ 3.2Ghz II Corsair H100 CPU Cooler II 24gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz II 2x MSI GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attack SLI II Corsair F240 SSD II 2x3Tb Seagate (RAID0) II 1Tb Seagate 7200.12 II 1.5Tb Seagate 7200.11 II Pinoneer BluRay Writer
