At last Stanford guys released this long awaited GPU2 Client for HD26XX and HD3XXX series of ATI cards. King Wink

It's still in beta version, but i've decided to give it a try and am more than happy so far. Grin

Point is that it works together with CPU client too...without any slowdowns at any clients side. Also...It can do WU (on 3870) in around 90mins. For the first WU finished that way i received 97points, which may not look alot, but if you multiply that by 16x...(for 24 hours of folding)...you get 1552points per day only from gpu (+points from cpu client if you run both) Wink

The best thing here is...that not only you can run both clients at the same time, but can also either watch movies, play games or do any other graphical stuff...without any slowdowns, lockups, resets,etc... King Wink

Download GPU2 client
HERE or read more about it
HERE.

Happy folding. Smile Wave

Nice to see they finally released it. So if I understand you correctly, gpu2 doesn't need a dedicated cpu to keep it folding? The old gpu client had issues and required a dedicated cpu to keep it working smoothly. The funky thing was it didn't matter how fast the cpu was, it just needed one. If this is indeed fixed it will give the gpu guys a huge boost in production, because they will no longer need to dedicate one of their cores to the gpu. Theoretically you could approach nearly 5000 points per day with a quad running the smp client, while also running the gpu client.............That would be nice!!!! Grin

Yes exactly! Wink

It doesnt need dedicated cpu...because in i.e....my case....i use smp client for cpu....which maxes all 4 cores....and at the same time...this gpu2 version...which folds on gpu....and they work without any problems or slowdowns at all....cpu still manages to finish each 1% at around 8-9mins (well unless right now when i work on that 2 million step unit....now each 1% takes around 20mins Bang Head Rolling Eyes Crazy Yikes Grin )...and gpu finishes each WU in about 1h20m-1h30m...so each 1% in 50-55 secs or so...which is GREAT! King Grin

Not to mention that at same time i play this TM Nations Forever...online game...and there are no glitches or anything else at all....all just works....although at such times cpu and gpu folding speeds decreases...which is normal Wink

So as you said....5K points is surely within a reach with such combination...maybe even more if all this works on some 3870 X2 card....or maybe 2 such cards in CrossFireX!? Grin Wink

EDIT:

And since you're around now, acruxksa...let me use this opportunity to ask you what i already asked around here...have you ever had this 2M steps WU (which alone takes at least 33+ hrs)??? Yikes And if, how much points is it worth?

Thanks Wink Wave

I don't believe I've had one of those. If you get the project number from the log files you can look up it's point value and get a short description HERE

This is great news indeed but lets hope the more advanced WUs will improve as mentioned.

I've got a p3060, fahmon shows it as 2539pts. Never really checked the frame times on it, but you are right it's in the 31minute range.

I just downloaded fahmon too...and checked this projects info...and its exactly as you said...2539 points...which is kinda less points per hour than those 1760points-worth projects - because "1760s" need 15hrs to finish....while this "2539" will take 30-33hrs...so 2 times more...so score could be 1760x2=3520 Grin And we get 1K points less....damn.... Bang Head

Conclusion...better to finish 2 "1760" projects, than 1 "3060". Grin Laughing Wave
