I got 4 for 7 bucks apiece at Big Lots. Dont lose the key though or your facing a reload. |
All my systems are now running truecrypt system whole drive encryption. This along with the bios password should be enough to keep casual users out. I just have to make sure I log off when I'm away from home. Part of the reason I built a folding@home farm was so i could start shutting down my main system. It's tough when you leave others to watch your house. i trust the guy who actually house sits for us, but some of his friends think they are computer genius's and those are the guys i worry about. Lately I've become a fan of the truecrypt system encryption, it's free, pretty fast and protects the entire drive. The latest version even encrypts the hibernation file on my laptop so as long as I make sure my laptop is shutdown or in hibernation things are good.
Goldenchessboard,
for all I know somone called up got them to reset my password and then abused my account. This is possible because i did receive a couple e-mail messages saying that my password had been reset. All i really know is i enjoyed WoW and was quite pissed about the whole thing. I've been trying to get up to speed with DDO, but I'm a creature of habit and I can see that I'm in for a bit of a re-learning curve.
Blizzard was starting to piss me off anyway by charging an arm and a leg for the program and then wanting the other arm and leg for the expansion pack all while sweeping up monthly charges to play the game. Then they started talking about yet another expansion pack.........It was starting to feel like extortion. I could see charging $15 or $20 for the expansion, but not $50 or $60. _________________

Even though it's a bit paranoid and I really doubt any wanna-be hackers can do it. If you don't shut down your system, and someone get's physical access to it they can steal the keys from Truecrypt (and most encryption software) and access your stuff.
It's not easy, and it will take a SERIOUS professional to do it, but it can be done. I've seen it, and while I haven't done it I understand how and why they do it.
Just make sure you shut down your laptop/system and make sure you know no one is around it for about 10 min's after it's off and you should be good to go. Yes I said 10 min's... apparently stuff stays in the RAM much longer than any of us thought......
As for DDO... I added you to my Friends list, next time I see you on I'll send ya a tell. Also if you haven't found a guild, and you want I'll send you an invite to ours. But in about a month it might get pretty lonely, as most of us are going over to at least check out Age of Conan. Been playing DDO for almost 2 straight years , a break is headed our way. |

I've been playing Eq1 since Jan '00. I don't see myself taking a break except to play some solo games like Overlord (which is playable now that I have a new video card), Tropico (cause it's fun), or some similar things. All the other MMOs that I've tried don't live up to my expectations from EQ. |

Two weeks ago I unexpectedly received two e-mails from blizzard in my inbox. One stated that my account was temporarily suspended for activities that weren't allowed. (I forget the exact wording) The second e-mail was a request to reset my password. This was a problem because I haven't used my WoW character for nearly a month (we've been away on vacation for three of those weeks). Either I've been hacked or one of our house sitters friends logged in on my computer and obtained my password. In any case I really didn't care and e-mailed them to say that I just wanted to cancel the account because I haven't been playing it much lately. They replied that I simply needed to log into my account and place it on hold. I've been trying to do this now for two weeks and it continually says that the account is frozen. This would be fine too except for the fact that today I noticed that blizzard took another 3 months of subscription fees out of my bank account and I can't log in to cancel.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! |
Your account prolly got jacked by the chinese gold farmers. That happened to my friend. You will get your account back and it does take a while. The account prolly got caught selling gold and so billzard banned it. Make sure to scan your computer and all that good stuff before you change your password. Also try signing up for the new battlenet thing thats out.
Goodluck,

It was resolved and I actually made it just over a year without playing WoW. I've been back at it for about 3 months now. Imagine my surprise when I signed back up and found my character still in the database. Up to lvl 75 now. I still only play about 5 or 6hrs a week so it will be awhile before I make it to 80.
My son was playing and I just couldn't fight the urge to stay away. _________________
