DOH! Well you definitely got lucky  I had a buddy of mine do something similar when he got into the tech end of computers a few years back with an Athlon. The HS popped right off the processor with out any of the stock pad remaining on the top of the processor. So he wiped the top of the processor covered it in goop and bolted it back down
