My first car was a '72 VW SuperBeetle which I bought for $400 in '82. I did a lot of welding and body work to it and had a local shop shoot it with Ford Grabber Blue paint for $100. I removed all the glass so the guy could paint it inside too. Reinstalled the glass using a Cal-look window seal kit and it looked pretty damn good.
The motor was pretty worn so I picked up a rusty parts car for $175 which had a good motor and four new Bridgestone radials tires. Some other things I did were swapping the tail lights for smaller ones from a '67 and installing a stealth electric antenna under the rear fender. The aerial popped through a hole in the tail light when I turned on the radio. I read about that in an issue of Hot VWs magazine and it looked pretty cool. |
