Pre-ordered Empire Total War back in November when they were running with a promo to include Rome Total War Gold for free, and while I enjoyed my old favorite in the months since, I've since been disappointed with its successor.

At first, I figured that the new combat dynamic emphasizing range combat (we are in the 1600's now) versus hand-to-hand combat of the original, that just didn't 'feel' right, but the more I played, the less and less that I enjoyed the actual battles. While sieging some native Americans, I opted to maintain the siege, and was attacked repeatedly in the process....and though I was winning each time, I wasn't wittling down their forces. Eventually I won out, after taking considerable casualties from the repeatedly populating native Americans. Mad

Later on, while attacking an enemy fort, my forces were under cannon fire, so I sent out my brave cavalry to send those artillery fleeing....and they couldn't figure out how to cross the bridge until I clicked, and re-clicked, and clicked again...and only managed to get part of one unit to cross over and engage. Bang Head

What happened to my Rome Total War that was fun, and the units could figure out what they had to do 95% of the time? Now I don't feel like I can even micromanage my way through a battle without losing 50% of my troops.

I played via Steam, so I had all the latest patches as of two days ago. What a disappointment.
