Wireless is definitely one of the items on the "Needs Improvement" list for Linux, but it is truly dependent on the card/chipset your wireless adapter uses. Atheros chipsets are pretty common and the madwifi drivers seem to do a reasonable job getting them to work. Intels chips also seem to have reasonable support. Many companies do nothing to help linux developers with their hardware so most of the problem is not with Linux or it's developers, it with the manufacturers. Many drivers have to be painstakingly constructed by reverse engineering the product. This takes a lot of time and commitment.
I agree that Linux could be a lot better, but when it comes to drivers the blame lies with the manufacturers, not the linux driver developers. _________________
