The PCI cooling booster is a great product with two flaws. Luckily there are quick fixes for both problems.
1. They use sticky tape to secure the fan to the metal cage. Sometimes the product arrives with the sticky tape already failed and the fan rattling around inside the plastic packaging. You can fix this by drilling 2 holes through the metal and securing the fan forever with 2 screws.
2. The cooling unit is secured to the top of the pci slots using 2 screws that have tapped holes in them. Some cases like Lian Li, use a different size thread than the screws supplied by coolit. Easy solution is to use 2 of those motherboard hex standoffs in place of the hardware from coolit. Then use your normal pci slot quick screws from lian li.
Despite these 2 flaws the pci cooling fan really will drop your pci slot temperatures over 14 degrees in the following situations. Your graphics card is single slot, (8800 gt style, not gts or gtx), and there is another pci card near it (like a sound card). The fan blows cool air straight down between the cards and removes hot air pockets. _________________ Turnipofpower.com - The Social Networking Side Dish |
